5 Ways to Clean a Laptop Properly

Cleaning your laptop is something that should be done regularly because almost all electronic equipment is very prone to damage. Cleaning parts like the fan and vents is crucial to ensure that the heat generated by the laptop can escape smoothly and doesn't get trapped inside, which can cause problems.

How to Clean Your Laptop

Any item can last longer if you take care of it, and this includes electronic devices like laptops. Here’s how to clean your laptop properly:

1. Make Sure the Laptop Is Off

Before cleaning the laptop, make sure it’s turned off to avoid any internal damage. Additionally, the laptop shouldn’t be charging because using liquids to clean it could be dangerous. If possible, remove the battery.

2. Use a Soft, Lint-Free Microfiber Cloth

A microfiber cloth can be used to clean the screen and lens. If you don’t have one, use a cloth made from a t-shirt or other soft fabric to avoid scratches.

3. Make a Cleaning Solution

You don’t need to buy a new cleaning solution; you can use vinegar mixed with water. For cleaning the LCD, don’t use alcohol, ammonia, or strong solvents. If using dish soap, mix it at a 1:5 ratio with water.

4. Don't Spray Cleaner Directly on the Laptop

If you’re using a cleaning liquid, never spray it directly on the screen. Spray the liquid on the cloth, then wipe the laptop with it.

5. Prepare a Screwdriver and Brush for Cleaning the Inside

To clean the inside of the laptop, you need to open it with a Phillips screwdriver or a special tool for removing the screws on the bottom. Use a soft-bristle brush to clean the laptop fan. Don’t use any liquids; make sure everything you use to clean is dry.

To clean the laptop keyboard, you can turn the laptop upside down and gently shake it to dislodge any crumbs. If there’s stubborn dust, you can use a can of compressed air to blow the dust out from under the keys.

Be careful when cleaning the inside of the laptop because some laptops have warranty stickers over the screw holes. If these seals are broken, the warranty may be voided. Check your laptop’s warranty terms first.

Cleaning your laptop doesn’t take much time, and the steps above can be done easily by yourself. Keep your laptop clean to ensure it lasts longer and works well.

Conclusion

Regularly cleaning your laptop, including the fan and vents, helps prevent heat buildup and potential damage. Turn off and unplug the laptop before cleaning, use a soft cloth and gentle cleaning solutions, and carefully clean the inside if needed. Following these steps will help keep your laptop in good working condition for longer.
